About Carolina Parenting's N.C. Family-Friendly 50
In 1999, Carolina Parenting Inc. began recognizing companies whose efforts helped parents balance career and family. What started as a small idea became an annual tradition. Each year, Carolina Parenting accepted statewide nominations and with the help of the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte, and, more recently, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, produced the annual list of companies. The N.C. Family-Friendly 40, the top companies whose policies, benefits and work culture represented the best in work-life balance practice, were announced annually in the September issues of Carolina Parent, Charlotte Parent and Piedmont Parent magazines.
As the years progressed, so did the family-friendly nature of the businesses in our region. The list of nominees grew, as it became clear to corporations and small-business owners that everyone reaps the benefits when employers help employees achieve work-life balance. So, in 2009 Carolina Parenting Inc. expanded the annual list by 10 companies to become the N.C. Family-Friendly 50.
As every working parent knows, balancing a successful work life with a positive home and family life can be a challenge. We are proud to highlight the 50 companies in North Carolina making life easier with family-friendly policies that create a positive outcome for everyone. From major corporations with more than 50,000 employees to the corner shop with just three on the payroll, these employers are creating win-win situations.
