Employees can elect to buy “choice time” (during Progress Energy’s open enrollment process) where they can receive up to 40 choice time hours and take the time off for newborn care, child care, school activities, vacations and other reasons before the end of the year. Telecommuting is supported in various departments across the company to allow employees to work from home (with supervisor approval) on a predetermined schedule or as needed basis. The company provides backup child care for employees during storm duty in the event of events such as ice storms and hurricanes.
