The staff at the United Way of the Greater Triangle frequently get leave extended, in many cases unpaid, for maternity leave, to care for a sick parent, etc. Many employees use flextime to accommodate family schedules. The nonprofit organization has a room set aside (called the Family Room) for children and nursing mothers that includes sofas, a TV, DVD player and computer. Members of the staff use this room when bringing children to work for the occasional school holiday or if a child is sick (but not contagious). The company gives employees a paid-time-off plan ranging from 18 to 30 days per year depending on their length of service.
